National Deaf Childrens Society

The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) is the only UK charity to provide immediate, on-going and impartial support, advice and advocacy on behalf of all families with deaf children and young deaf people.

Since 1944, NDCS has campaigned to ensure that all deaf children achieve their birthright of enjoying a fulfilled, rewarding, successful and happy childhood. Through practical and emotional support and unique services, we help them to see beyond the daily challenge of childhood deafness to maximise their skills and abilities.

NDCS believes that:

  • if support is given and positive attitudes are fostered, the challenge of deafness can be a rewarding experience for deaf children and their families;

  • parents and carers should receive clear, balanced support and information as near to their homes as possible;

  • deaf children need to develop fluent language skills in order to understand and influence the world around them, by which ever approach is the most appropriate for the individual.

  • The NDCS aims to work with all deaf children and their families and believes that all people are of equal worth.

NDCS uses the word 'deaf' to mean the full range of hearing loss.
