Welcome

National Care Leavers' Week 2008
26th - 31st October

Every Care Leaver Matters

In 2008 National Care Leavers Week is asking policy makers, practitioners and public authorities to make  sure that every care leaver matters.

What does this mean? It means that we want to see children leaving residential care have the same choices about when they leave care as children in foster placements. It means we want children with disabilities who are leaving care to have the same opportunities as other care leavers. It means that we want care leavers who are struggling to find their purpose and their place in society to also have the access to extended support that will be given to care leavers who are excelling in education and aiming for university degrees.

Every care leaver is an individual. Every individual has unique needs. Everyone needs to know that they matter. In 2008 making every care leaver matter is our business.

In National Care Leavers' Week 2008 there will be events happening throughout the country - organised by National Care Leavers' Week coalition partners, by local authorities and care leaving teams, and by individuals. Updates will be available on this site very soon. Please visit again and let us know what plans you have locally to ensure that once again National Care Leavers' Week is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of care leavers everywhere and to remind Government that they still have time to improve the forthcoming Children and Young People's Bill if they seriously want to make every care leaver matters.
