Statement on euthanasia/ assisted dying
The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association exists to support people with MND and their families and carers, and to fund and promote research towards finding a cause of and cure for the disease.
As an Association we neither support nor oppose any attempt to change the law regarding euthanasia or assisted suicide because we believe it is a matter of individual conscience and it is not for the Association to make judgements.
However, in advance of any change in the law, we are campaigning to ensure that the very best palliative and terminal care is available to everyone who needs it. Only then will anyone considering ending his or her life early genuinely have a choice.
Whether or not there is a change in the law, the MND Association will continue to support anyone affected by MND regardless of their views on this issue.
