Working with Parliament and Government
As the employer-led Sector Skills Council for IT and Telecoms, e-skills acts as the 'voice' of employers on technology-related skills issues. We provide a unique platform for dialogue and collaboration between employers and government, helping to shape government policy on skills.
e-skills provides unique access to employer insight through its authoritative employer Boards, market leading research and policy responses.
e-skills supports the network of MPs through Parliamentary Committees and Select Committees and produces regular parliamentary briefings.
Parliamentary briefings
e-skills produces regular parliamentary briefings, underpinned by employer insight and world class research, in response to legislation and key events in the political calendar.
Collaboration with MPs through Parliamentary Committees
e-skills is collaborating with the Parliamentary Information Technology Committee (PITCOM) to deliver 'Made IT Happen', a UK-wide challenge to reward the best use of technology by primary schools. The competition is aimed at primary school students aged nine to eleven and is looking for projects that show initiative and imagination, make the most of the school's available ICT resources and can demonstrate fit within the national curriculum.
"There is a lot of excellent work with technology going on in the ’s primary schools. Young people are being encouraged to use technology creatively for activities that range from running clubs and networks to campaigns and community projects. 'Made IT Happen' will enable us to recognise and celebrate the best of this work." Andrew Miller, Labour MP for and Neston and Chairman of PITCOM
"Technology has become an integral part of the way we live, learn and work. As a result everyone needs to have some level of IT skills. Primary schools across the are using ICT not just to enhance learning and extra-curricular programmes, but to help young people acquire vital skills for the future." Tim Boswell, Conservative MP for Daventry and a member of PITCOM council
The competition will include Regional and National winners and each winning school will receive a cash prize. Winning schools will be invited to an awards ceremony at the House of Commons, hosted by the Speaker of the House of Commons.
