International Parliamentary Conference on the Millennium Development Goals

From 28 November to 2 December 2011, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK (CPA UK) will host an International Parliamentary Conference on the Millennium Development Goals 'Reaching for 2015: Governance, Accountability and the Role of the Parliamentarian' at the Houses of Parliament, London.

Parliaments are crucial but often overlooked partners in the development process. They are the watchdogs that can hold governments to account for their development and aid commitments at a local, national and international level. In the combined roles of lawmaking, oversight and representation, parliaments have the duty to ensure that the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are reflected in national plans and policies, legislation and budgets, as well as giving a voice to the poorest and most marginalised among society.

The International Parliamentary Conference on the Millennium Development Goals (IPCMDGs) will bring together parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth to examine these themes.

The Parliament website hosts a full schedule of events.
