CPI Biennial Health and Safety Conference 2009

CPI Biennial Health and Safety Conference - MEMBERS EVENT

Date: 3rd November 2009
Location: St Johns Hotel, Solihull

This unique event is specifically aimed this year at CEO's, operational management and supervisors, health & safety practitioners and safety representatives working in the paper industry.

The aim of this year's programme will be to:

• use the findings and conclusions from the Baker report into the explosion at the BP Refinery, Texas City in 2005, illustrate how important it is to manage 'process safety' in any industry;

• inform industry leaders of the critical role that they play in effectively managing process safety, and why you shouldn't become complacent by relying on injury statistics alone to measure performance;

• illustrate how, by having a shared vision and employee involvement, you can deliver sustainable improvements;

• using case studies, highlight how the Police and HSE are investigating accidents 18 months into the Corporate Manslaughter Act, and what potentially 'lies ahead';

• explain how humans are pre-disposed to seek out the easy or simplest route, and the need for job design to recognise this;

• hear how one company achieved success, through radical employee involvement, which resulted in a productivity increase, improvement in quality and customer relations.

Speakers include:

• David Snowball, HSE Regional Director
• Martin Gummery, Managing Director, Newleaf International
• Pippa Brockington, HSE, Human Factors Specialist
• Andy Godbold, Divisional SHE Manager, DS Smith Packaging
• Ron Reid, Shoosmith Solicitor
• Prof. John Oliver O.B.E

Key Note Speech:
Clive Bowers, Chief Executive Officer, Smurfit Kappa Group
