What is the BG Energy Challenge?

BG Group's sponsorship portfolio is called Energy for life. The BG Energy Challenge series is one of four sponsorships that make up the Energy for life portfolio.

The Challenge, which takes place annually, is a string of team building events for the global energy industry. The BG Energy Challenge series has events taking place in a number of countries where BG operates, including, Brazil, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Oman, Trinidad & Tobago, the US and the UK. It is a test of teamwork, ingenuity, skill and commitment, drawing support from a wide variety of companies in the energy sector and raising substantial funds for charity. Since 1996, worldwide BG Energy Challenge events have contributed over £3.5 million to charities worldwide.

Which charities benefit from the UK Energy Challenge?

The UK BG Energy Challenge raises money for two important charities; CARE International, one of the world's largest independent relief and development organisations, working in more than 70 countries and benefiting over 48 million poor and marginalised people, and Sparks, the children's charity aimed at helping all babies to be born healthy and grow up healthy by funding medical research to tackle conditions including cerebral palsy, meningitis, spina bifida, club foot, childhood arthritis and cancers. Teams can choose to donate all of the money raised to either charity or can split the funds equally between the two.

Since 1996, worldwide BG Group Energy Challenges have contributed nearly £3.5 million to charity. We ask all teams to raise a minimum of £5,000 to take part in the UK event and help these deserving causes.

Where will the UK Energy Challenge be held this year?

The event will be held in Plymouth, Devon, from 10 to 12 July.

How can I register for the UK Energy Challenge this year?

Anyone working in or associated with the energy industry can enter a team. Each team consists of four people, an optional rotating substitute plus an executive who will compete in the managers stage with their team - the 'Leaders' Challenge'.

Where was the UK Energy Challenge last year?

Last year 33 teams battled it out in the stunning Trossachs area Stirling, Scotland. Kept in the dark about what each stage involved until the last minute, all teams showed courage, commitment and determination in challenges that combined orienteering, mountain biking and canoeing with complex construction, code breaking and mental puzzles over two days of gruelling competition.

Through the event BG Group raised over £200,000 for CARE International and Sparks.
