National Care Leavers Week
"I am delighted to offer my support to National Care Leavers' Week 2009. National Care Leavers Week is now a well established annual event, offering a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of care leavers and to thank all those who support them. Ensuring we do everything we can to help young people to make good transitions when they leave care is tremendously important; that's why I was proud to have helped launch the From Care2Work programme earlier this year. Run by NCAS, this is bringing major employers and local authorities together to create 'work experience to employment' packages for care leavers, designed around their interests and talents. I hope From Care2Work will make a real difference to young people when they leave care and over the next year I want to see more imaginative partnership approaches like this one, so every care leaver gets the help and opportunities they need."
