Sew fine, but sew expensive

Bored of this season's fashion must-haves? Consumers can create their own with The Brother Innovis 6000D Quattro, a new combined sewing machine and digital camera.

This February, which.co.uk takes a first look at the domestic device and finds that with 600 embroidery designs in the memory and the ability to upload photos or designs to be reproduced in thread embroidery, it is certainly an impressive machine. However, at £6,000 it might take a while to recoup its value.

British Gas quotes leave us cold

When the boiler's on the brink and something more efficient is required, don't assume the best deal will be from the biggest name, warns Which? magazine this month.

In a snapshot investigation, Which? finds that British Gas charges up to twice as much as the lowest-priced independent engineer for the same job. In one case, British Gas quoted £3,997 to replace a 12-year-old combination boiler, where for the same work independent engineers quoted almost £2,000 less.

Cut your phone and broadband bills, says which.co.uk this month

Save money by switching home providers or bundling broadband, home phone and TV, says which.co.uk this month.

Nearly half of Which? Members have never switched their home phone service before and 32% think it would be a hassle. However, 88% of members who have changed their provider found it easy and 66% of members saved money in doing so.

In the latest Which? satisfaction survey, the consumer magazine lifts the lid on the top providers and the best bundling deals available.

Jess Ross, editor of which.co.uk, says:

"We're all looking for ways to save money at the moment, but we don't have to make unwanted sacrifices. By switching your telecoms provider or choosing a bundle you could save hundreds of pounds a year. It's not difficult to do and in the current economic climate we could all do with saving a bit of money where we can!"

Get rid of unwanted Christmas presents online with the help of Which? this month

A quarter of Which? online panel members have tried selling something online, with goods ranging from books and CDs to a piano and a pile of old bricks. Which? looks at some of the different websites to use, gives tips on the best ways to sell and advice on how to tackle problems that can arise when selling online.
