VELUX welcomes new planning rules in Wales

7 August 2009

Kevin Brennan, Head of Sustainability, VELUX Company Ltd, welcomes the news that new planning rules will be introduced in Wales, to make renewable technologies more accessible:

"Too often we see Government departments create obstacles to change and improvement, but Jane Davidson, Housing Minister of the Welsh Assembly Government should be commended for her latest commitment to tackle climate change. Removing the requirement for planning permission will undoubtedly make renewable technologies more accessible to the wider public, and this can only be a good thing.

"We have long been highlighting the significant benefits of solar thermal technology. With the new planning rules in place from September, homeowners in Wales will soon be able to install technologies such as solar hot water systems, which can provide up to 70% of a home’s hot water requirements, without having to incur the lengthy and often costly planning process."
