Unite's reaction to Dairy Farmers of Britain closure

12 June 2009

Responding to the announcement that Dairy Farmers of Britain will close their Welsh plant at Bridgend from 6pm tonight. Unite regional industrial officer, John Toner said: "We are bitterly disappointed that PWC will close the Bridgend factory from 6pm tonight resulting in the loss of 270 jobs."

"The Welsh assembly wants Welsh milk to be distributed to Welsh schools but the loss of milk production in Bridgend will make this aspiration even harder to achieve."

Dairy Farmers of Britain blame the competitive market and their small margins over a number of years as reasons for this sudden closure.
