Rob MacGregor, Unite national officer said: "Unite supports the bonus payments being made to the staff at Northern Rock as appropriate recognition for the turn around in the fortunes of the bank. The improved financial results announced today (10th March) are the direct result of the hard work and dedication of workforce, in particular the thousands of staff in the North-East.
"It should be remembered that those we represent are amongst some of the lowest paid workers in the finance industry. These modest bonus payments allow them to make ends meet and pay their household bills, not to buy second homes or Ferraris, as is the case with bonuses for traders in the City of London."
