Unite disappointed with further consultation at United Biscuits

Unite, the UK's biggest union, has today (Wednesday) displayed anger at United Biscuits managements attitude towards new proposals set out by the union to keep jobs in the UK.

Unite represents many workers at United Biscuits (UB) and in a long running campaign has gathered massive support from across Merseyside and local MPs, however UB seem determined to move these jobs to India.

Unite regional officer, Debbie Brannan, said: "We arrived for talks in order to discuss how we can find alternatives to outsource these jobs to India, however UB clearly had different ideas.

"Unite proposed an alternative which would have meant that all these jobs would stay in Liverpool. This was thrown out after twenty minutes of consultation.

"We have presented the company with serious options making significant savings. However, due to the company representatives the board have not even been allowed to see these. The same company representatives, who will have a job at the end of this, are now trying to scrimp on redundancy payments for our members.

"If these plans are put through our members will be out of work. And to add insult to injury , they will be asked to teach workers from India how to do their job before they are let go. This is disgraceful, United Biscuits should be ashamed.”
