Tube menace gets tag and curfew

A man who was found guilty of assaulting a member of Tube staff will be electronically tagged for the next three months.
Leon Jackson, 20, customer sales worker, Birchanger Road, South Norwood, was found guilty at Horseferry Road Magistrates court, on Friday 18 November, of common assault on a revenue control inspector at Green Park tube station.
The court heard how Jackson had verbally abused several members of staff before the assault took place. Jackson had pleaded not guilty to the incident which took place in the morning rush hour on Tuesday 23 August 2005. However the District Judge deemed that he was guilty.
George McInulty, JNP Service Director, LU, said: "LU staff and customers are entitled to work and travel in a safe and secure environment. We will not tolerate violence and abuse towards our staff and customers and will vigorously pursue prosecution."
Jackson be tagged for three months and will be under curfew, which requires him to stay indoors between 9pm and 6am. He was also sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid community service work.
