In response to the independent ‘Front of pack signpost labelling review’ commissioned by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Peter Hollins, Chief Executive of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) said:
“The current mish mash of food labelling systems has confused the public about the nutritional value of the foods they’re putting in their shopping baskets for too long.
“We support the findings of the independent review which conclude that the gold standard for food labelling should be a combination of both traffic lights and GDAs. Colours are the key and this system would give shoppers clear consistent information about the food they buy.
“It’s time for food companies to stop making excuses, support one system and ensure shoppers are given the ‘at a glance’ information they need.”
