Reacting to the comments of the House of Commons children, schools and families select committee on Ofsted, Chris Keates, general secretary of the NASUWT, the largest teachers' union, said:
"The deficiencies of the inspection system highlighted by the committee are old news.
"Year after year the NASUWT and many other organisations have repeatedly given evidence to the select committee's annual review of Ofsted, cataloguing the inconsistencies and unfairness of the system and the excessive burdens it places on schools.
"There have been no significant changes to Ofsted's remit over the last twelve months. So why is the committee, which has the Parliamentary responsibility for scrutinising Ofsted, only now reaching these conclusions?
"The fact that it has may be better late than never but it will be cold comfort to the hardworking and committed school leaders and teachers who have endured, and continue to endure, the burdens and injustices of a system which it has been evident for years is in dire need of reform."
