SeeAbility teams up with the Eye Health Alliance as its newest member

August 13 2009

The Eye Health Alliance has gained further support within the optical world, as its membership recently expanded to include SeeAbility, its 10th member.

SeeAbility is a specialist and growing charity, which enables blind and partially sighted people with additional disabilities to achieve more from life and encourages others to see beyond the disability. David Scott-Ralphs, the charity's Chief Executive said: “Becoming a new member of the Eye Health Alliance is important to us as it reinforces our work. Some of the most vulnerable people in our society are struggling with sight problems that affect all areas of their life as a result of a lack of regular eye tests and referrals to clinics and hospitals. We are determined to fill the gaps and transform the lives of the many people who need it".

Many people with learning disabilities may not know they have a sight problem and they may not be able to tell others. The Eye Health Alliance is concerned that many people with learning disabilities are not getting the eye care services they need, such as regular sight tests.

Heather Marshall, the Eye Health Alliance spokesperson said:

'Having SeeAbility, a prominent and dedicated charity on board will help us to raise awareness of sight loss for people with learning disabilities at a national as well as a local level. Their membership to the Alliance comes at an exciting and opportunistic time in the political calendar, as we gear up to make a lasting impact at party conferences this year.'
