Press Release
Search for top language projects enters final weeks
11 April 2007
Projects bidding for recognition in the UK and Europe only have until the end of the month to highlight the merits of their language learning approach. Applications for the European Award for Languages, which recognises innovative language initiatives, must be received by 30 April 2007 to be eligible for consideration.
Projects can involve learners of all ages working in any context, but applications are particularly welcome from schemes involving adult learners or with a business/vocational slant. Judges are also keen to see a wide range of languages represented; special prizes are offered for the best projects involving French, German, Italian, Spanish and community languages.
Prizes include resources and materials from a range of sponsors, including an Award of £1,000 from the Training and Development Agency for Schools for the best project in initial teacher education.
Projects can involve any language other than English and should be based in the UK. Eligible projects must demonstrate that they are innovative, effective and replicable. The application process is straightforward and details can be found at www.cilt.org.uk/eal.
The Award is an annual, Europe-wide initiative supported by the European Commission. CILT, the National Centre for Languages, assisted by an advisory group, co-ordinates the Award in the UK. The deadline for applications is Monday 30 April 2007.
