ROTARY RAISES £140,000 FOR BARNARDO’S
14 June 2007
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland has been working in partnership with Barnardo’s for the last twelve months. During this period Rotary Clubs have raised more than £140,000 for Barnardo’s, as well as raising awareness of the work of the charity, and supporting local Barnardo’s projects, from helping in its network of shops and mentoring at its projects, to organising fundraising events in the community.
Peter Offer, Rotary International President in Great Britain and Ireland President, said ‘Barnardo’s is making a real difference to thousands of children, young people and their families and I am delighted that the 58,000 Rotarians in over 1,840 Rotary clubs in Britain and Ireland are able to help in the work that the charity is doing today. The need for this work is highlighted in a recent Barnardos’s report on child poverty ‘It doesn’t happen here ’ which starkly shows the scale of child poverty in Great Britain.”
The report paints a vivid picture of the grim reality of life for many of the poorest families in Britain today, including the working poor as more than half of children in poverty live in families with at least one earner. For full details see:
