Press Release
Red Cross partners with Land Rover G4 Challenge
25 September 2007
Land Rover G4 Challenge has created the ultimate global competition for the most adventurous of competitors, which aims to generate more than £1 million for the Red Cross.
The new global partnership between Land Rover and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will be coordinated by the British Red Cross. Over the next two Challenge events the £1 million target will generate funds for Red Cross projects across the world.
The first Challenge will see a total of 18 mixed gender national teams compete in a gruelling series of monthly selection events to then battle it out to qualify in an ultimate three-week final, which is planned to take place in Asia in 2009. The best male and best female from each of the 18 nations will then compete for victory.
Ultimate challenge
Competitors will be put to the test, as the challenges will combine off-road driving, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, orienteering and abseiling. Each event will take place in extreme environments and test initiative, strategic thinking, driving skills and physical fitness.
Funds generated will go to support projects in the location of the challenge events and the overall winning national team will win a Land Rover for their national Red Cross or Red Crescent Society.
Land Rover managing director Phil Popham said: “Land Rover is a strong brand that has a natural fit with humanitarian organisations in general. Our association with the International Federation goes back a long way. We are now looking forward to forging closer links with the International Federation through the Land Rover G4 Challenge.”
Sir Nicholas Young, the chief executive of the British Red Cross, said: “Association with the Land Rover G4 Challenge offers a unique and positive way for the International Federation to reach completely new audiences. It will enable us to activate projects that may otherwise not be possible. This will be a partnership that will save lives – it’s as simple as that.”
