Commenting on the report launched today by the Public Sector Pensions Commission, Christine Blower, general secretary of the National union of Teachers the largest teachers' union said;
"This report is precisely what we would expect from a commission set up by the Institute of Directors. Its inquiry should be described as renegade rather than independent.
"It ignores the reforms already made to public sector pensions, which will cut their long term costs as the National Audit Office and the Office for Budgetary Responsibility have recently confirmed.
"The IOD is deceiving the public and promoting the politics of envy. Making public sector pensioners poorer will not make private sector pensioners richer; it will just mean poverty in retirement for everyone and higher welfare costs to the taxpayer. We need decent pensions for all workers - not just directors - and in the public and private sector alike."
