Neglect is storing up a time-bomb of poverty for future pensioners as GMB calls on all political parties to engage in serious debate about how to restore confidence in occupational pension schemes
Today GMB published a new report setting the record straight on public sector pensions and proposing a model of occupational pension provision for the UK that is sustainable and fit for purpose. See copy on GMB website http://www.gmb.org.uk/
The report considers the role of public sector pensions in the wider context of occupational pension saving. GMB looks at the long term sustainability of public sector schemes and the consequences for the country if they are continually undermined.
Brian Strutton, GMB national secretary for Public Services said, "Providing for future generations of pensioners is one of the key challenges facing politicians. However, too much of the debate has been dominated by cheap jibes at public sector pensions while private sector schemes have collapsed. The GMB report shows that this is storing up a time-bomb of poverty for future pensioners and that’s why we call on all political parties to engage in serious, considered debate about how to restore confidence in occupational pension schemes"
