LOC Support Unit joins forces with the Eye Health Alliance as its newest member

The Eye Health Alliance continues to grow in strength and size as its membership recently expands with the LOC Central Support Unit. The Support Unit provides guidance, practical support and training to subscribing LOCs, in order to help them become more effective in expanding the role of optometry locally. The Unit, particularly through enhanced services board of directors, comprises representatives from the LOCs, ABDO, AOP and FODO. Georgina Gordon, Head of Unit, explains why their new membership with the Eye Health Alliance is so important. ‘The Eye Health Alliance is a demonstration of the sector working together to further the interests of the professions. The more we can work collaboratively, especially in relation to the NHS, the stronger our chances of success in providing new enhanced services and improve the eye health of the nation.’

Promoting the importance of eye health to people across the UK is a task that requires joined up thinking and action on a local and national level. Heather Marshall, Head of Public Affairs at the Eye Health Alliance explains, “the LOC Central Support Unit joins the Alliance at an exciting time as all areas of the sector including professionals, patients and manufacturers, campaign together to improve the eye health of the nation. Having the Support Unit on board will help us to raise eye health up the public health agenda at a local level.”
