Intellect comments on Andy Burnham's statement on the future of digital radio
23 June 2008
Intellect welcomes The Secretary of State Andy Burnham's statement, made today, on the future of digital radio and endorses the approach of a migration to digital as detailed in the Digital Radio Working Group's interim report.
Intellect supports the collaborative approach that the Department of Culture, Media and Sport has taken in creating the interim report, which has seen all sections of the industry work together to identify a migration path to digital radio. As the report makes clear, DAB will be the primary digital delivery mechanism in the UK going forward.
Intellect's Director of Consumer Electronics, Laurence Harrison said of the interim report, “We believe the future is digital and fully support the findings of the interim report. We think the collaborative approach that the government has taken in the Digital Radio Working Group is the right one. With over 7 million DAB sets already in households, growing listening figures and a variety of exciting new products to come to market, digital radio is set to go from strength to strength.”
Intellect is the trade association for the UK technology industry representing 800 members including a number of stakeholders in the radio industry that cover set, chip manufacturers, and network operators.
