The London Mayor Boris Johnson, announced the details of the revised London housing strategy last week.
Jenny Edwards, Chief Executive of homelessness umbrella organisation, Homeless Link, said,
"We are actively involved in the work of the London Delivery Board which has been set up to ensure that the ambitious commitment to end rough sleeping in London by 2012 can be realised. We strongly support the cooperation between the Mayor, Government, charities and local government to make this happen. There is now active dialogue between potential partners. We want to be sure that the action plan, due to be announced later this year, has practical solutions to issues that have been outstanding for a long time and that it cuts off some of the main feeder routes for street homelessness in the capital."
The Mayor also pledged to halve severe overcrowding in London's social housing sector by 2016.
Jenny Edwards commented,
"There is a direct link between overcrowding and homelessness as tenancy agreements are put at risk. We welcome the ambition of the draft housing strategy to tackle this problem for the well being of so many London residents."
