Help teh Aged reaction to Ofgem social tariff guidelines
Thursday, July 24 2008
Reacting to the Ofgem guidelines on social tariffs, Mervyn Kohler, Special Adviser for Help the Aged, says, "By their very nature, social tariffs are designed to make things easier for the most vulnerable - so it makes complete sense for them to be the cheapest option available. This guidance will help to demystify social tariffs for customers including older people.
"Energy suppliers have a responsibility to ensure that people who are struggling with fuel bills have the best deal available to them. With one in five older households living in fuel poverty there is no time to lose on this.
"Help the Aged has joined forces with Friends of the Earth to seek a judicial review to ensure the Government is held to its legal obligation to eradicate fuel poverty."
