Health Professions Council meeting agenda summary

This is a summary of the agenda for the Council meeting to be held on Thursday 11 February. The full agenda and papers are available on our website at:

A summary of decisions will be made available on the HPC's website within fifteen working days of the meeting.

Welsh language Scheme

The Council will be asked to consider and agree the consultation document on the Welsh Language Scheme and, in addition, that the Executive work with the Welsh Language Board to agree a consultation programme.

Fitness to Practise Prosecutions Policy

To ensure that the Council's prosecution policy properly reflects the provision of Article 39A relating to the Hearing Aid Dispensers and remains fit for purpose, the policy has been reviewed and Council are asked to agree the changes to the policy which, if agreed, will come into force on 1 April 2010.

Hearing Aid Dispensers - Standards of proficiency and threshold level of qualification for entry to the Register

A joint consultation between the Hearing Aid Council (HAC) and Health Professions Council (HPC) was carried out from 15 July 2008 until 15 October 2008 on draft standards of proficiency and the threshold level of qualification for entry to the Register. Council are now requested to consider and agree that it is not necessary to consult again on the standards of proficiency and threshold level of qualification for hearing aid dispensers and that the standards identified in the paper agreed by the Council on 11 December 2008 should be published. With regards to the threshold level of qualification for entry to the hearing aid dispensers part of the register in the standards of education and training, Council are asked to agree that it should be set at a foundation degree and read: 'Foundation degree for hearing aid dispensers'

Hearing Aid Council Case Transfer

The Council is being asked to consider and agree provisions for the handling of outstanding Fitness to Practise issues which have been passed to the HPC as a result of the transfer of the Register from the Hearing Aid Council.

Partner Recruitment

Council approval is sought to the recruitment of partners in various areas. All applicants have gone through the full recruitment and selection process.

Partner reappointments and agreement extensions

Council approval is sought to a different reappointment approach to be taken for specific partner roles to suit the particular requirements and legislation pertaining to each role type.
