Greater Choice for Listeners to Christian Radio on DAB in London

United Christian Broadcasters, one of the UK’s leading Christian media charities, welcomes the news that Premier Radio is soon to start broadcasting across London on DAB.

Coming less than three months after United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) launched its own DAB digital radio station across the Greater London area, Premier Radio has announced that it too will be commencing broadcasts on the DAB digital radio platform. This is great news for people who want to listen to Christian radio, whether they are living in and around London, commuting to and from work each day or just visiting our nation’s capital.

UCB’s launch of UCB UK on DAB in London on January 15th 2007 gave people who listen to Christian radio more choice, both in content and programming styles. Robbie Frawley, UCB’s Radio Stations Manager, comments:

‘With a format comprising 65% contemporary Christian music, DAB is well suited to this type of format.’

With UCB becoming established in the capital, support for UCB is growing and this trend is expected to continue as UCB becomes more active and more visible in and around London. With an emphasis on promoting the Christian message through the medium of radio, UCB recognises there is an opportunity to work with and alongside Premier Radio in this regard. Ian Mackie, UCB’s Chief Executive, notes:

‘We are not in competition with Premier Radio - we are offering an alternative for people who want to listen to a different Christian radio format. Our supporters expect us to use the money they provide wisely; I’m sure Premier Radio’s supporters would feel the same way.’

UCB’s vision is for national Christian radio broadcasting. With no access at present to the national DAB multiplex, UCB’s strategy remains one of establishing a national network, region by region. Ian Mackie adds:

‘As we continue to expand our DAB digital network across the UK, we hope we will have more opportunities to work with other Christian broadcasters.’
