2 October 2006
Freight Facilities Grants (FFG), the Department for Transport’s (DfT) start-up funding scheme for freight transport (both water and rail) is being showcased at a seminar hosted by Sea and Water on Tuesday, 17 October 2006, in Central London.
The half-day seminar will also explore other available freight grants including the Sustainable Distribution Fund and the Marco Polo II scheme. The seminar will feature practical presentations from the Department for Transport and from Capita Symonds, the consultancy that processes FFGs. They will explain to delegates how to apply for the grants and will be followed by a case study given by grant beneficiary, Associated British Ports (ABP). During lunch there will be an opportunity to discuss the European Union’s Marco Polo II funding scheme. Marco Polo II will take effect from 1 January 2007 and will run until 2010 with an objective to achieve modal shift onto water.
Dr Heather Leggate, director of Sea and Water, says that attendance at the funding seminar is essential for opinion formers and decision makers within freight transport and logistics operations to get an understanding of why and how they can make a modal shift using the available grant schemes.
“It is the first time that a funding seminar of this calibre has taken place for industry and Sea and Water is delighted to be the host. The funding is available to achieve modal shift, that is, moving freight onto water and rail and these grants can help businesses to achieve this,” said Dr Leggate.
She added that Government is concerned to ensure that the application process is well understood and as easy to use as possible. Delegates attending the Seminar will be able to express their views and share their experiences.
The seminar will be held at the MWB Business Exchange, 10 Greycoat Place, London SW1P. The programme is as follows:
