Press Release

French legal reform architect heads to Chancery Lane

23 June 2009

The report, which has been welcomed by French president Nicolas Sarkozy, calls for important reforms to the legal services sector. The Darrois proposals will have an impact on UK firms with a presence in France or with any relationship with entities across the English Channel.

Alison Hook, Law Society head of international, says:

"To have Mr Darrois as the key note speaker at such an important seminar is invaluable to those who are attending. Any firm with links to France will benefit from the seminar, and will gain an even greater insight into the proposed reforms from the man who invented them.

"France remains an important market for UK legal services. The seminar can aid the legal profession in England and Wales in understanding the changes that are on the horizon."

The seminar will look at the comparison between English and French legal services reform and more closely at how the Darrois report will impact on UK solicitors and law firms working in France or with French partners.

In addition to Darrois' speech, Dominique Voillemot, Director of the Brussels Delegation of the French Bars, will address the seminar on the French bars' view of the reports, while Professor Stephen Mayson, Director of the Legal Services Policy Institute at the College of Law, will compare legal services reforms in England and Wales and in France
