FLA WELCOMES NEW CHAIRMAN

10 May 2007

FLA’s Board have appointed David Betteley, Managing Director of Toyota Financial Services UK as chairman for the two year term to 2009.

David Betteley began his career in the financial services industry in 1976 by joining Lloyds & Scottish Finance, which later became Lloyds Bowmaker, where he held a number of management positions during the 1980s.

In 1988 he joined International Motors (IM) to establish a finance operation, which involved setting up a joint venture with the former UDT.  Having accomplished this, in 1991 he was posted to Sweden as managing director of IM’s motor vehicle import business.

David joined GMAC (UK) as Managing Director briefly, before joining Toyota Financial Services (TFS).

As Managing Director of TFS he facilitated the setting up of Toyota’s own finance business in the UK and the signing of a five-year service agreement with Lloyds UDT to provide the back office services to finance Toyota’s customers. That contract expired in September 2003, by which time TFS had developed its own back office systems and recruited its own staff to run a totally independent self contained business which now operates successfully from Toyota’s UK headquarters near Epsom, Surrey.

In addition to his role as MD in the UK, David is now Vice-President of TFS’s operations for the UK, the rest of Europe and Africa

David became Chairman of the Finance & Leasing Association’s Motor Finance Division in May 2003, after serving as vice-Chairman for the previous year.

FLA has also made appointments of new chairmen in its asset, consumer and motor divisions. Richard Priestman (Lombard North Central) has taken over from Chris Stamper (ING) as Chair of the Asset Finance Division; Nigel Terrington (Paragon) has taken over from Simon Baum (Alliance & Leicester) as Chairman of the Consumer Finance Division; and Doug Moody (DaimlerChrysler Financial Services) has taken over from Peter Cottle (Capital Bank Motor) as Chairman of the Motor Finance Division. All three had previously served as vice-Chairmen of their respective divisions.

The Board will welcome Stephen Sklaroff, the incoming FLA Director General, from 21 May.
