FLA WELCOMES MBE FOR MARTIN HALL
29 December 2007
FLA Chairman, David Betteley, has welcomed the announcement in the New Year’s Honours of an MBE awarded to Martin Hall, who retired as FLA Director General in July 2007, for services to the finance industry.
Martin continues to chair the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group’s (JMLSG) Board of Directors and is Chairman of the Money Advice Trust (MAT).
Mr Betteley said:
“The honour bestowed on Martin reflects his significant contribution to the consumer credit, motor finance and asset finance industries. Martin led the FLA for twelve of its first fifteen years and worked tirelessly to ensure that the views of lenders were represented at the highest levels in Westminster and Brussels.
“One of Martin great passions over the years has been to help those who get into financial difficulties. Under his chairmanship of the MAT, there has been a phenomenal growth in the number of advisers at National Debtline and significant additional funding generated for the money advice sector.”
Martin spent his earlier career in the Diplomatic Service and Treasury, including two years as the Chancellor’s Press Secretary. Moving to the private sector in 1986, he was Head of Corporate Affairs at Eurotunnel plc and then the London Stock Exchange.
