Press Release

EXAMINATION OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION NATIONAL CONFERENCE PROGRAMME - JULY 2007

16 April 2007

The focus of this year’s Conference programme is to further support the professional development of examination office personnel.  This is in keeping with the EOA’s overall strategy to support our members in this vital, but often difficult role of delivering the exam system for Schools and Colleges.

Delegates will receive guidance, updates, practical advice and support from representatives of the Education Community as well as the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with colleagues from their region.

From recent feedback members have commented that this year’s conferences should reflect more of their personal needs and concerns as developing professionals unlike other events where the focus has been purely on servicing the exam system.

Some of the suggested subjects include; Professional Development, Job Regrading by LEA’s, the 14-19 Agenda and Customer Service from Awarding Bodies.  Part of the day will involve delegates attending chosen workshops to debate and share tips with colleagues on the current ‘hot issues’.

Feedback from last year’s conferences

Last years conferences in London, Manchester and Birmingham were very well attended by members, a large number of whom completed detailed evaluation forms providing us with invaluable feedback about various aspects of the conferences.  We have been able to incorporate a number of the suggestions made. For example we will be adding Leeds and Bristol to the list of locations allowing members in these regions to attend.  In addition, and again taking on board members’ suggestions, there will be the opportunity for delegates to attend 2 workshops of longer duration rather than 3.

Many members also expressed a wish for more networking time with colleagues – always difficult when we are trying to fit a full agenda into a 9am till 4pm day. However, we have decided to offer members the opportunity to stay overnight in the various hotels the night before the conference and join other colleagues for Cocktails and Dinner.  This will apply to all locations except London.  If you are interested in this option please email us and we will advise you of the additional cost for the overnight stay. The costs will vary according to venue, but it is our intention to keep this to a minimum to encourage more members to attend.  Please note we will only be able to offer the overnight stay if sufficient numbers take up the offer at each venue.  So do let us know soon if this option is of interest to you.

What will delegates gain from the day?

  • Insight into how the Exam Office relates to the wider Educational Community.
  • Practical advice on ‘Hot’ issues from new and experienced EO’s.
  • Access to a valuable channel of information and support.
  • Information about Exam Officer BTEC Qualification.
  • The opportunity to meet and share experiences and advice with colleagues from other centres.
  • The opportunity to hear from and ask questions of the Awarding Bodies and Government Agencies within the Exam community.
