e-skills UK welcomes focus on skills for global competitiveness in Government restructuring

Following the announcement of the restructuring of the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Trade and Industry into three new Departments, e-skills UK welcomes the Government’s commitment to skills and education.

“e-skills UK welcomes the Prime Minister’s emphasis on the twin trends of globalisation and technological change. We are delighted that the Government has put the need for world class skills and innovation at the heart of its drive to meet the challenges and opportunities of globalisation.

“A world class skills base is essential for success in the technology-enabled world; and our job is to make the UK number one in technology skills.

“We are therefore pleased that the new Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) will have a specific focus on the expansion of high-end graduate skills, which is a real priority for the IT and Telecoms sector. We look forward to working closely with DIUS on the implementation of the Leitch Review on skills to 2020 and the long term professional development of our sector’s workforce.” 

“The new Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (DBERR) will be responsible for developing a world-class competitive business environment in the UK. We look forward to working with DBERR to ensure that the UK is able to make the most of technology for productivity and business success.”

"Thirdly, we look forward to working in partnership with the new Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to help prepare young people for successful lives and careers in the modern world.  This will include collaboration on programmes such as Computer Clubs for Girls and the new Diploma in IT for 14 to 19 year olds."
