e-skills UK comments on Government plans for IT suppliers and skills

Following yesterday's announcement by the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, John Denham, that the Government's £14 billion IT spend would be used to boost workers' skills and job prospects, Karen Price, CEO of e-skills UK said:

"We welcome the Government's recognition that IT is of immense strategic importance to the UK economy, and the Secretary of State's wish to take a lead in ensuring our IT sector is world class.

"To retain and increase our global competitive advantage in IT, we must develop the skills that enable us to attract high value work, investment and jobs to the UK.

"Today's announcement signals a new opportunity to bring together the UK's IT industry and Government to help address this important issue. e-skills UK is pleased that it has been asked to work with employers and lead on the development of these proposals."
