Press Release

DAVID PARSONS APPOINTED REGIONAL CHAIRMAN OF BUILDERS GROUP

15 June 2007

The head of South West contractor, Pearce Construction (Barnstaple) Ltd, has been appointed regional chairman of trade body the National Federation of Builders (NFB).

David Parsons, who has been a regional board member at the NFB for four years, takes over from Rupert Perkins – Contracts Director of John Perkins Construction.

Established in 1946, the business was acquired by Pearce Group Bristol in 1981 before being bought out by its management team in 2003.  Currently employing 120 people, the business is heavily involved in residential development, general contracting and property management.

Commenting on the appointment, David said: “Today’s construction industry is almost unrecognisable from when I first joined it. One of the biggest advancements has been in the relationships between client and contractor, where a growing number of firms are moving away from old adversarial methods to partnering based contracting.

“The NFB has actively helped contractors like us embrace that change, ensuring we continue to play an active role in our chosen markets, specifically through training and advisory services.”

He added: “The industry continues to witness unprecedented change – with newer issues like sustainability and zero carbon construction posing a challenge for thousands of firms. This is why the organisation is as relevant today as it was when I first joined it. Only by accessing dedicated support can the industry help to tackle these issues and evolve their businesses.”

The NFB represents small and medium sized contractors  in England and Wales. It recently reported its strongest set of financial results to date, delivering an eight per cent growth in sales to more than £3.5m for the 12 months to December 2006. It operates a regional network of seven offices and employs 40 staff.

The Federation, which was established 15 years ago, is the largest constituent member of the Construction Confederation. Its roots date back to the late 19th century when it was founded as one of the first employer’s organisations for construction.
