Cutting public spend is not on while the super-rich are getting away with contributing nothing

24 March 2010

There is much in the budget to support investments and jobs and this is to be welcomed.

GMB today reacted to the budget.

Paul Kenny, GMB general secretary said,"There is much in the budget to support investments and jobs and this is to be welcomed.

Regarding the fiscal deficit, cutting public spending is not on while people who live luxury lifestyles are allowed to get away with contributing nothing at all. This is a time when the UKneeds to get back onto fiscal solid ground and closing the tax havens is a key to it. GMB members want an all out attack on tax avoidance and evasion. Everyone must pay their fair share.

On stamp duty anyone who can afford a multi-million pound house cannot jib at paying tax that will enable the less well off to get a foot on to the housing ladder.

Now is not the time to cut public spending when the long awaited recovery from this banker’s recession is still fragile."
