October 31st 2006
Christopher Biggins and Lesley Joseph will be leading the parade on Saturday November 11th for Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland and The Institute of Cancer Research at the Lord Mayor’s Show - the colourful procession, traditionally held on the second Saturday in November, in celebration of the appointment of the new Lord Mayor.
The Institute of Cancer Research is one of Rotary’s preferred projects this year, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of early detection in the successful treatment of cancer. This aims to raise public awareness about cancer and its symptoms and help save lives.
Rotary’s float, an open top double decker London Big Bus will be led by Christopher Biggins and Lesley Joseph accompanied by Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland President, Peter L Offer, and London District Governor Clive Amos. The Rotary/Institute display will also feature some 50 individuals on foot, including Rotarians from all over Great Britain and Ireland together with representatives from The Institute of Cancer Research.
Christopher Biggins said, “It’s such a privilege for me to be in this parade representing two remarkable organisations. Rotary and The Institute of Cancer Research are going to make a huge difference across the country in creating more awareness of cancer and this is an ideal forum for them both to promote their excellent work.”
The show is organised and hosted by the Pageantmaster, and televised, and viewed by over 3 million nationally, to be beamed around the world for the public eye, and promising to deliver a truly sensational sight for all.
On Saturday 11th November, the procession, will proceed from London Wall at 10.30am, traversing a 1.75 mile route lined by thousands of onlookers, to Temple Place, followed by return journey, to arrive back for 2.30pm. Traditionally, the procession led to the Royal Courts of Justice, where the Mayor and his colourful procession were met by the judiciary before swearing allegiance to the crown.
