Press Release
CALLING NOTICE – ‘Twenty is Plenty’ for Holloway
28 August, 2008
Who: Don Foster MP and Cllr Ian Gilchrist (Lib Dem, Widcombe), along with residents from Holloway
What: Campaigning for “Twenty is Plenty” – a 20mph limit on their road
When: Tuesday 2nd September at 5:45pm
Where: Residents, Cllr Gilchrist and Don will be meeting at the bottom of Holloway (Matt Hemsley can be reached on 07739 517 943 on Tuesday after 5pm)
Commenting, Don said, “All across the city residents are calling for safer speeds on their roads. There are numerous ways to achieve this, either through more traditional street furniture, but also as the City of Portsmouth have shown by simply making it the norm. Drivers there now expect to be driving at 20mph on residential streets. We can achieve the same result here in Bath.”
Cllr Ian Gilchrist said, “I have polled a large number of residents in the Holloway area, and have found that about 80% are in favour of reducing the speed limit to 20 mph. It is a steep street well-used by residents and other pedestrians, and suffers from cars (and cyclists) going too fast for the safety of themselves and others.
“Collecting signatures for our petition is just the first step on a journey which we hope will lead to better street conditions for all in the area.”
