Business in the Community’s Awards for Excellence 2008
The UK’s most influential awards recognising responsible business have been launched today by Sir Michael Rake, Chairman, BT.
Business in the Community’s Awards for Excellence identify and celebrate companies having a positive impact on society.
Peer-assessed by representatives from more than 150 organisations and independently assured the Big Tick award is the most respected endorsement of responsible business practice.
The sixteen categories recognise companies that are improving their impact on the community, environment, marketplace and workplace. The awards are supported by some of the UKs leading companies including HBOS, Marks & Spencer and Man Group.
This year there is one new award – the BT Total Talent Award – recognising companies that are working to identify and develop talent both within their workplace and in the community.
The strongest entries will be honoured as an “Example of Excellence” at a Gala Dinner on 7 July 2008. Last year, the Awards were presented by HRH The Prince of Wales and Al Gore at the Royal Albert Hall in front of 1,800 business leaders.
Julia Cleverdon, Chief Executive of Business in the Community said: “The search has now begun for the most inspiring examples of positive impact of companies on society.
This year we will have a special focus on those businesses that are responding to the skills and talent challenge and helping to ensure the UK remains competitive”
