BSC Appoints New Safety Policy Advisor
Friday, May 16 2008
The British Safety Council (BSC) is pleased to announce that Neal Stone has been appointed as its senior Health and Safety Policy Advisor.
Neal will work within the Communications and Policy Unit, reporting to Director of Communications, Sameena Khan. Commenting on Neal's appointment, Sameena said: "This is a very important time for Neal to be joining us, as the British Safety Council looks to increase its representation on UK, EU and international bodies, both in the professional and regulatory arenas."
"Neal's solid experience of health and safety policy making and his work with key stakeholders will enable him to make an important contribution in helping BSC and its members shape the policies of the future. I am delighted to welcome Neal and look forward to working with him."
Neal previously worked for the HSE for sixteen years during which time his roles included advising the HSC Chair and Commission on policy and strategy, co-ordinating HSE’s input into the recent Commons Select Committee inquiry into the work of HSE and leading HSE's business involvement, director responsibility and worker involvement programmes.
Prior to working for HSE, Neal spent eight years with ACAS as an industrial relations officer and seven years with the Jobcentre service as an employment adviser.
Commenting on his new role, Neal said: "I am pleased to be joining the British Safety Council and have the opportunity to raise its profile with government, politicians and other key stakeholders. The BSC's knowledge and expertise have an important part to play in taking forward our goal of reducing ill health and injury in the workplace and it is important our voice is heard. My job is also about helping BSC engage with a wide range of stakeholders and organisations we haven't necessarily worked with before and building productive relationships with them."
He added: "I regard health and safety as so important and I decided to join the BSC because it shares my vision. I want to be a part of an organisation that wants to make a difference in the world of health and safety."
Neal has a law degree from the LSE, an MSc from Birkbeck and MPhil from the University of Kent in British Politics and Public Administration. He is for his sins, a Chelsea season ticket holder.
