ATL to march at G8 rally in Edinburgh
A group of members of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), led by past President
The Association is a key player in the Campaign for Global Education’s “Send My Friend to School” campaign, which has involved children and schools around the world in a protest against the fact that there are still more than a hundred million children worldwide, two thirds of them girls, who receive no education.
ATL is affiliated to the Make Poverty History coalition, and presented Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Education and Skills, with the white campaign wristband at the ATL Conference at Easter.
Judith Rowley said: “This march has a real connection with teachers because they understand that education is the key to making poverty history, which is why providing education to developing countries is so important.”
ATL will march with the other teacher unions as a discrete group under the slogan of “Educate to End Poverty; Send My Friend to School”. In addition, members will help to staff the “buddy making” stand in the Children Zone at The Meadows
