Dr Mary Bousted, general secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), said:
“The report is asking a lot of the right questions. The Select Committee is right to challenge the Government about using PFI for school building, as this has always been a bad and very expensive deal for English taxpayers.
“The Government has not suggested unravelling the current three-year funding deal for schools, but we are anxious about funding from 2012. Words like productivity and cost-benefit sit uneasily with education’s fundamental role to produce well-rounded, balanced and skilled young people.”
