AQA announces 13 top-performing award winners at prestigious ceremony

1 December 2009

The Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) will present a national award to 13 top-performing GCSE and A Level students at a prestigious ceremony in London.

The AQA Annual Seminar and Awards will take place this year on Monday 14 December at One Great George Street, Westminster, London, SW1P 3AA. This is the first year that the GCSE and A Level students will be celebrated in one combined ceremony. Each award winner will receive a solid silver medal, and a framed diploma to mark the occasion.

One A Level and one GCSE 'Student of the Year' will also be chosen from amongst the 13 award winners and an announcement made at 11.40 am approximately. Each 'Student of the Year' will also receive a trophy and a framed certificate, along with a cheque for £250.

Dr Mike Cresswell, director general of AQA, and The Lord Sutherland of Houndwood KT, Chair of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors will address the winners, their guests and a number of delegates from industry and education.

This event recognizes outstanding performance in examinations and we are delighted to introduce an award for our Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) this year. The new EPQ offers students a free project choice, so they can explore in depth: an aspect of a subject they are studying, or a topic in which they have a personal interest.

Speaking about the ceremony, Mike Cresswell said: "AQA is proud to continue to host the Annual Seminar and Awards. Our award winners have achieved outstanding success, and I congratulate them and wish them every success in the future."

The awards are co-sponsored by AQA and a number of companies with an interest in the field of education. The A Level and GCSE award winners come from approximately 3.5 million examination entries taken with AQA.

There will be opportunities on the day to find out more about the new AQA Bacc, Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and AQA's Enhanced Results Analysis (ERA).
