The Jarrow Parliamentary Constituency
The constituency's 82,589 people represent a rich mix of people from a wide range of social, business and cultural background. This richness is reflected in the economic profile of the wards within the constituency, from the very affluent areas such as Cleadon to Jarrow and Hebburn where high unemployment levels reflect the loss of traditional industries. Within the constituency manufacturing and retail jobs are the main employment areas.
Environmentally, the constituency has an attractive outlook. From the banks of the River Tyne the densely populated urban landscape of Hebburn and Jarrow, threaded through with wild life corridors, give way to the greenbelt and its series of urban villages, the Boldons, Cleadon and Whitburn.
The constituency looks back on its industrial past with a pride that reflects the character of its people and forward to a future built on new skills and a quality of life that goes beyond the national perception of a deprived community.
All in all it's a canny place to live.
