Constituency

Montgomeryshire (electorate 44,000) is a largely rural constituency in Mid Wales. The main centres of population are Newtown, Welshpool and Llanidloes along the Severn Valley in the East, and Machynlleth in the West.

The old county of Montgomeryshire/Sir Drefaldwyn is now the northern part of the unitary authority of Powys. The constituency stretches from Shropshire in the East to the estuary of the Dovey in the West.

Montgomeryshire, at the heart of rural Wales, is blessed with spectacular unspoilt scenery and a genuine sense of rural community. Newtown is the largest town in the constituency with a population of around 10,000.
