Keith Hill
Biography
Keith was born in 1943 in Leicester where he attended the local Grammar School. He won a scholarship to Oxford University before he completed a Diploma in Education at the University of Wales . Keith returned to Leicester to lecture before continuing his academic career at Strathclyde University. After briefly working for the Labour Party Keith became the Political Officer for RMT where he remained until he was elected as the MP for Streatham in 1992. In Parliament Keith has been PPS to Hilary Armstrong and an assistant Whip. In July 1999 Keith was appointed as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the DETR (Minister for Transport and for London). After been re-elected in 2001 Keith was appointed Deputy Cheif Whip. In June 2003 was appointed as a Minister of State at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. His other activities have included being a Member of the House of Commons Select Committee on Transport (1992-97); Member of Standing Committees on Railways Bill (1993), Finance Bill (1994), Jobseekers' Bill (1995), Asylum and Immigration Bill (1996) and a member of the All Party Group on Prostitution (1996). Keith was also Labour's London Spokesperson for the 1997 and 2001 General Elections, Secretary of the London Group of Labour MPs, and Chair of the Labour Movement for Europe.
