Wentworth encompasses areas to the north and east of Rotherham within the Dearne and Rother Valleys.
It is divided into seven Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council wards:
- Wickersley, Bramley and Ravenfield
- Brampton, Melton and Wentworth
- Dalton, Hooton Roberts and Thrybergh
- Rawmarsh East
- Rawmarsh West
- Swinton
- Wath
Traditionally, Wentworth has been a highly industrialised area, with large coal and steel sectors. The local economy is now experiencing a transition into new technology and specialist engineering sectors, founded on the expansion of high-quality academic and professional education services.
