David Laws
Biography
David Laws was elected as Member of Parliament for the Yeovil constituency on June 7th 2001. After graduating with a double first in Economics from Kings College, Cambridge, David embarked on a successful career in Banking. He was Vice President of JP Morgan and Co, based in the United States, before becoming Managing Director of Barclays de Zoete Wedd in 1992. However, David's real ambitions lay in the world of Politics. After moving to Yeovil he was elected in 2001 to take over from Paddy Ashdown who stood down at that election. He is currently the Liberal Democrat Chief Secretary to the Treasury meaning that he is responsible for scrutinising the Government's spending plans and all of their economic policies. David generally spends between three and four days a week in Yeovil where he negotiates a heavy diary of Advice Centres and meetings across the constituency from Yeovil to beyond Chard.Biography
