Brian Jenkins
Biography
Brian Jenkins was re-elected for the third time as Labour Member of Parliament for Tamworth in June 2001. The seat was originally South East Staffs, which Brian won in a by-election in 1996-97. The constituency changed its boundaries to be called Tamworth in 1997.
Brian was educated at the LSE with a BSc in Economics and started his career in industry. He worked for the CEGB from 1961-68 and for Jaguar Cars from 1968-1973. He then lectured at Tamworth College of Further Education from 1983-1996 after gaining a PGCE from Wolverhampton Polytechnic.
Brian's political career began as a Councillor serving on Tamworth Borough Council from 1985-96, becoming Leader of the Council from 1995-96.
Since his election in 1996, Brian has served as PPS to Minister Joyce Quin at both the Home Office (1997-98) and at the Foreign Office (1998-2000), and at MAFF (2000-2001). Since the 2001 election, Brian has been appointed to the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee, and also the Broadcasting Select Committee.
Special interests are trade and industry, broadcasting, education and training.
